Our Mission
Evergreen Inspiration Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit founded by Juilliard Pre-College students. The Evergreen Project is dedicated to bringing high-quality music education to underprivileged students. For the past three years, we have partnered with Evergreen Charter School in Hempstead, New York, providing orchestra mentoring, lessons, and performance opportunities.
The string orchestra at Evergreen, comprising around 30 talented young musicians, includes many who lack access to private music education. Through our collaboration with Juilliard Pre College students, we are committed to ensuring that every student can build a strong technical foundation and grow as a musician.
Our benefit concerts not only raise essential funds for school music programs but also provide performance opportunities for our students and mentors. Additionally, our research team explores how music connects to the broader world, highlighting that music education is about more than just playing an instrument. Performing in and attending concerts helps students develop as musicians, performers, and listeners. Our themed concerts delve into topics such as music history, music therapy, cultural influences, and the works of various composers, offering a well-rounded and enriching experience.
We are committed to expanding this program so that all children have an equal opportunity to learn and appreciate music.
Our Story
The story of Evergreen Inspiration began in the summer of 2022 at a music festival in Germany. There, Keira, a student from Evergreen Charter School, met Juilliard Pre-College cellist Phoebe, and they soon became friends. Keira shared her frustration about the limited cello education at her school, so Phoebe gave her a few lessons. Seeing how quickly Keira improved, Phoebe was inspired to help Keira’s school. She began her work that fall with the high school orchestra of Evergreen Charter School in Hempstead, New York, which serves a community of primarily low-income Hispanic and African American families.
Phoebe was soon joined by Norman, a fellow Juilliard Pre-College bassist who shared her passion for making music education accessible. What began as a few informal lessons blossomed into a collective mission. Together, they organized weekly group lessons, dedicating their time and energy to nurturing the talents of the Evergreen high school musicians.
Over the past three years, Phoebe and Norman have transformed their mentoring into a sustainable program. They have provided consistent guidance to the Evergreen high school orchestra and created opportunities for its members to perform in benefit concerts. Today, the Evergreen high school orchestra consists of about 30 young musicians, many of whom have little to no access to private music education. They are now mentored under the umbrella of Evergreen Inspiration Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded by Phoebe, Norman and Keira.
Through these efforts, we are proving that music has the power to transcend boundaries, uplift communities, and unlock potential in unexpected places. What began as a simple conversation in Germany has blossomed into a powerful story of inspiration and opportunity—one note, one lesson, and one concert at a time.
