Our Mission
Evergreen Inspiration Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit founded by Juilliard Pre-College artists in 2022. Evergreen Inspiration is dedicated to fostering musical excellence within underserved communities. Through our weekly mentorship of the Evergreen Charter School orchestra, tuition-free summer intensives, and side-by-side performances with our students, we provide the essential financial aid and Inspiration Scholarships that ensure high-quality music education remains a right, not a privilege.
The high school string orchestra of Evergreen Charter School, comprising around 30 talented young musicians, includes many who lack access to private music education. Through our collaboration with Juilliard Pre College students, we are committed to ensuring that every student can build a strong technical foundation and grow as a musician.
Our benefit concerts not only raise essential funds for school music programs but also provide performance opportunities for our students and mentors. Additionally, our research team explores how music connects to the broader world, highlighting that music education is about more than just playing an instrument. Performing in and attending concerts helps students develop as musicians, performers, and listeners. Our themed concerts delve into topics such as music history, music therapy, cultural influences, and the works of various composers, offering a well-rounded and enriching experience.
We are committed to expanding this program so that all children have an equal opportunity to learn and appreciate music.
Our Story
The foundation for Evergreen Inspiration was laid in the summer of 2022 at the Musiktage am Rhein festival in Germany. There, Juilliard Pre-College students Phoebe and Norman met Keira, a student from Evergreen Charter School in Hempstead, NY. After learning from Keira about the school's limited music resources, Phoebe began giving her cello lessons; these proved so helpful that they eventually led to a weekly commitment to the high school orchestra of Evergreen Charter School, which serves a primarily Hispanic and African American community. What began as informal instruction soon evolved into a structured program of weekly group sessions, driven by a shared goal of making music education more accessible.
Over the last four years, this mentorship has grown into a sustainable initiative. By providing consistent technical guidance and creating performance opportunities through benefit concerts, the program has helped the orchestra expand to approximately 30 young musicians. Now operating as Evergreen Inspiration Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded by Phoebe and Norman, the organization continues to bridge the gap for students who would otherwise lack access to private music instruction.
In May 2026, Norman launched a monthly community outreach project, A Heartfelt Concert Series, for cardiovascular patients and their families at St. Francis Hospital & Heart Center in Roslyn, New York. The performances have been highly well-received by the hospital, with a representative stating, "Music heals in ways that medicine cannot, and that means everything to us."
